2015/1
I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease by Dr Andrew Evans (Clinical Neurologist, Specialist / Researcher in Parkinson’s Disease(PD)) in May 2012 – only three and a quarter years ago. I am now 67 years of age.
I have a driven personality.
I had run daily until the age of 42 when I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis in my knee joints. I then took up road cycling, and until the age of around 53, I averaged about 200 kilometres a week on my mountain bike. All in addition to my family, consultancy and farm responsibilities.
I have a Grad Dip in Applied Science (Occupational Hazard Management) which I obtained in my early forties (I had the amazing experience of undertaking University studies at the same time as three of my four daughters).
At time of diagnosis I had run my own Consultancy in Occupational Risk Management Systems for a period of 15 years, although I had been able to do very little over the previous 2 to 3 years; for that period I had been able to assist one long term client in a very limited way.
In addition to the Consultancy, I also had a small farm which I worked and developed on weekends over many years – prior to the PD onset of course.
